Introducing...Mel & Sydney

One evening, while visiting in Oceanside, two white owls flew over us screeching.  My SIL said that they were barn owls and they live near by.  As matter fact, you can watch them on a live cam.   (How cool is that?!?)

That is how my fascination began.  Let me introduce you to.....

Mel & Sydney
The Cutest Barn Owls!

Someone in the Oceanside neighborhood, near my family, put up an owl box with cameras.  It is very cool to see an owl up close.  Last year, you even got to see Sydney's babies be born.  If you have children, this would be perfect for them to see!!

Mel & Sydney come and go, but if you follow the blog, you can get a history of their comings and goings.  The blog owner is really good about keeping the blog updated.

You can find the owl's here:

There is nothing like spending time with the family. The precious memories that we are cataloging, I will cherish forever. Miss Millie was a perfect age to enjoy Christmas this year. Watching her face light up with joy, was so fun!! I will be posting more about that after we get home.

After our seven days with family, I have lots of posts planned. We have been so busy, I have neglected my blog very badly. I'll get back on track real soon!!

Nonny's Monkey Bread

I cannot believe Christmas is just a few days away!! In our large family, we spread out the holidays pretty much the whole week.  It is great times and a lot of precious memories are made.  It is over much too quickly!

I love to make cinnamon rolls for Christmas, but they take so much time and are very messy.  Monkey Bread is a nice alternative to do.  Pillsbury has a very easy recipe out that you can use canned biscuits.  One year at camp, my MIL used cinnamon roll dough, and it turned out so good!  There is nothing like yeast dough! Pillsbury dough just doesn't rise like this!

So to save time....and a HUGE mess in my kitchen, I tweaked my Monkey Bread recipe a little. Rhoades has a great frozen dinner rolls in a bag.  That is what I used...and it so easy!

How to make Nonny's Monkey Bread:
You will need~
A fluted tube pan
1 Bag of Rhoades Frozen Dinner Rolls
Cinnamon & Sugar Mixture
1 cups of Sugar
1 cups of Brown Sugar
2 Cubes of Margerine
Cooking Spray

First you put your frozen dough in the refrigerator the night before.....or let defrost somewhat before use.

Here now you have your soft dough, already in balls for you!

Take each ball and roll them in your sugar and cinnamon mixture. As you are done, start lining the botton of your pan like you see below.

Next, you will prepare your sauce.  Combine 2 cubes of melted margerine, 2 cups of sugar, & 2 cups of brown sugar.  Mix it well.  It will look like below. To make it really moist, I cover the first layer in the pan with a coating of sauce.

After  lining your pan with all of the yeast dough balls, you will pour the rest of you sauce over the dough.

When done, it will look like this!

Next, Let the dough rise near your warming oven for approx. 30-40 mins.

Then you will bake it in the oven, on 375, for 25-30 minutes.  It will be Dark Golden Brown when done.  You want to make sure the dough is cooked all the way through.  No raw dough!

When done, take out your Monkey Bread and flip onto a serving pan.  To make it more like a cinnamon roll, I drizzled a powder sugar glaze over the top!  Next time I am going to a cream cheese frosting! Yum!

You want to serve these warm, but they do heat up well in the microwave for later.

To serve, you pull off portions of the Monkey Bread.
Perfect!

See how easy they are!! Now go make some....and really impress your family! :o)
