I went to Walmart a few months back and found this really cute pre-smocked material. I love the colors of the material and the cute polka dots and bumble bees.
This material is perfect for a beginner sewer. If you can sew a straight seam, you can make this skirt. And the elastic waist band will be already done, so all you need to do is make a hem.
Here I have already sewn the side seam. As you can see, the waist band is already done!
Next, I zig zagged the raw edges. I like a more finished look, with no fraying. After the hem, you could be done, but I wanted a little more cuteness.
The bottom of the material was black and white polka dots. I decided to try my hand at an applique. I found a bee cut out online and cut out a bee applique for the skirt.
First, I ironed on Heat n Bond to the polka dot material. Then I cut out the bee applique.
Then you iron on the applique to your skirt. After that, I went over the edges with my sewing machine.
Every little girl likes sparkles!
I sparkled some of the bees and polka dots with glitter paint.
I also put black ric rac around the hem.
For the eye, I just stitched and hot glued a black bead.
