My Little Friends

Since I was a little girl, my dad loved to feed the hummingbirds.  He passed that fondness down to me.

I have three feeders that I have placed outside windows that I look out of everyday.  It is such a treat to catch them as they drink the nectar that I provided for them.

This day I had my camera handy and was able to get these shots.....

They don't sit still very often......

Hungry little guy  gal.........
It is actually a gal.  Males have colors typically on their stomach, females don't.

They are such fun to have in the backyard.  If you would like to try, all you need is a feeder and use this homemade hummingbird nectar recipe below.

Homemade Hummingbird Food

1 part sugar/4 parts water

Boil the water first, then measure and add sugar, at the rate of 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water.

Let cool and store excess in refrigerator until ready to use.

Do not add food coloring, honey (which ferments), or artificial sweetener, which has no nutritional value.
