Relic to Fabulous: Refurbishing an Old Night Stand

The furniture in my home is used until it can't be used anymore.  For example this night stand....it looks rough, but the drawers work and it is still solid.  It was also from my first bedroom set my parents bought me in the 1980's.  It has been around a long time.

Once again, Pinterest makes you feel like you can accomplish anything! So many ideas to refurbish an old piece of furniture.  Since this with my first time, I searched for the most easiest way possible.  It was Spray Paint!  I can weld a can of spray paint!

Here are the items you will need:

Primer, Warm Yellow, Navy Blue, Hammered Gray, and Clear Coat

I went to our local Home Depot and this is the brand that they carry, but Krylon from Walmart comes highly recommend also.  I choose to go with two colors.  You will also need primer, a clear gloss coat, and a spray for the metal handles.  You may also want to have sandpaper handy.  I wanted the texture, so I didn't sand.

First you are going to clean the piece of furniture really well.  You will also remove the handles.

You will primer the pieces first. Typically for light colors, you would use white primer and the grey primer for dark colors.  To save money, I choose white for both colors.

As the primer was drying, I prepared the handles to be sprayed.
I chose a speckled grey for the handles.  I sprayed first with the handles down.  Then after they dryed, I sprayed with the handles up. (It will leave indentions, make sure it is dry)

Next comes the color......
Make sure you spray thoroughly and with side to side strokes.  I put about three coats.

After the piece of furniture dries, put the handles back on and you have a new, fabulous piece of furniture!

I was pleased with the finished product.  Not bad for my first time.  My husband was even impressed....."I didn't know you could do that with spray paint."  Yup, you can!

Finished Product.......

I have the matching night stand in another room.......
hmmm....what color could I do that one? :o)
